Screw cap or cork stopper?

Yes, there are alternatives to the cork stopper, very high-quality ones in fact, the screw cap. It is ideal for hermetically and reliably sealing bottles. This is true for the vast majority of wines on the market. Nevertheless, the screw cap suggests to many wine lovers an inferiority that is not technically true.

I have a pragmatic attitude: I use the screw cap for those wines where you expect continuity and personality. For example, the “nanumy” I drink today should taste the same as the one I drank months ago. With the screw cap, I can make the promise that you will drink exactly what I put in the bottle.

With the cork stopper, things are different: because with vintage and site wines, I use the natural cork. That is, for those wines that have a specific character depending on the vintage, grape variety or vineyard location. My “jeninser” from 2019 tastes different from the one from 2018. Every vintage has its own signature – and this should be allowed to develop further in the bottle with the slightly air-permeable stopper.
