Chasselas, Fendant, and German Gutedel, Krachlampe, Silberling, Süßling, or again French Viviser: there is hardly another grape variety with so many different names. The reason for this, apart from the diversity of terroirs, could also be the chequered history of this grape variety, whose predecessors were supposedly already widespread in ancient Egypt. In Valais, this versatile species is called «Chasselas» – the steep mountain slopes give it a distinctive character here: harmonious, fresh and aromatic.
